Since opening its doors on 23 January 1978, St George State High School has been at the heart of secondary education in the Balonne Shire. Established to provide local young people with the opportunity to complete their secondary education close to home, the school has grown alongside the community it proudly serves. Today, we continue that same commitment—providing a high-quality education that prepares students not only for academic success, but for life beyond the classroom. Located on the banks of the Balonne River in the heart of South West Queensland, St George State High School is the region's only state secondary school, welcoming students from Years 7 to 12 from across the Balonne Shire and surrounding communities. Our size is one of our greatest strengths. Every student is known as an individual, supported by dedicated staff who build strong relationships and high expectations, ensuring every young person has the opportunity to thrive. Education in our community is a shared journey. We work in close partnership with St George State School and our cluster primary schools to support students from their earliest years through to graduation. Strong relationships with our partner schools create seamless transitions into secondary education, while our collaboration with families and the wider community ensures students feel connected, supported and confident at every stage of their learning. For almost five decades, our school has evolved to meet the changing needs of our students and our region. While our commitment to academic excellence remains constant, our programs reflect the unique opportunities of living and learning in one of Australia's most productive agricultural regions. As Queensland's Agricultural School of Excellence, students experience learning that extends well beyond the classroom. Through authentic partnerships with industry, hands-on learning and innovative Agriculture, Water and Environment (AWE) programs, students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to succeed in agriculture and countless other careers. These experiences connect learning to the real world and help students discover pathways that match their interests and aspirations. Our vision is simple: every student leaves St George State High School ready for their chosen future. Whether that pathway leads to university, vocational education, employment, apprenticeships or contributing to a family business, we equip young people with the capabilities, resilience and character to make a positive contribution to their community and beyond. While much has changed since 1978, what has remained constant is our connection to community. We are proud of our history, proud of the generations of families who have entrusted us with their children's education, and proud of the partnerships with our local schools that help shape every student's journey.
