At St George SHS, our Senior Secondary program actively prepares every student for life beyond school by supporting successful transitions into further education, training, and employment. Our curriculum provides a broad range of pathways, including ATAR and non-ATAR options, School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBA/T), and targeted programs that support direct entry into the workforce.

We are committed to ensuring all students can access the subjects and pathways they need. Where a subject cannot be delivered locally, we prioritise alternative delivery methods to ensure students still have access to their chosen course of study.

Senior Secondary follows the curriculum and certification requirements set by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA).

What St George SHS does to support students in Senior Secondary:

  • Tailored Course Offerings
Senior subject offerings are designed to reflect student choice and align with local community and industry needs.
  • Flexible Subject Access
Where subjects are not available on-site, students are supported to access learning through the Queensland Virtual Academy and Distance Education, ensuring equitable access to a full range of courses.
  • School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBA/T)
A strong SBA/T program operates from Year 10, with students participating in a structured two-day-per-week model. Opportunities are sourced through both school partnerships and industry engagement. This program allows students to gain valuable industry experience while earning credits towards their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).
  • Remote Area Teacher Education Program (RATEP)
Delivered through virtual learning, RATEP provides a supported pathway for students pursuing a career in education while remaining connected to their local community.
  • AWE Collaboration – St George Agricultural Career Education Immersion Program
Provides students with hands-on agricultural learning experiences aligned to local industry pathways.
  • Shearing Camp
Offers practical, skills-based learning linked to regional employment opportunities.
